For those who were able to attend, THANK you for making this 4th Mid-year Institute amazing. We can't wait to post National Teacher of the Year Sarah Brown Wessling's speech. What an inspiring person and fellow educator. Also outstanding were the hundreds of teachers who met to discuss how they could do better by kids. Reflection spurred from critical dialogue about the authenticity of the assignments we put before our learners reached a new level of intensity. Participants took it one step further by getting serious about bringing vidoe clips of themselves, inviting peers to critique the pedagogy and offer ideas for consideration to improve their instruction. A special thanks to all those teachers willing to put themselves out there for scrutiny!
For those who missed this Iowa Regional Collaboration Day, know that there is one more event on Feb. 18th in West Des Moines at Vally high School! For more information, contact Rita Martens (email@example.com) or Deborah Humpal (firstname.lastname@example.org) at the Iowa department of education, 515-281-3145.
The Iowa Department of Education in partnership with the Center for Authentic Intellectual Work is hosting a weekend of professional dialogue and innovation. February 11 and 12, 2011, is the 4th Annual AIW Mid-year Insitute in Iowa. This two-day event brings educators together from around the state to investigate the intellectual quality of one another's professional work. Day one, called Regional Collaboration Day, is being held simultaneously at different locations throughout the state for the first time due to increased demand throughout Iowa. The second day, called Extended Conversation Day, is held centrally in and has more specialized workshops presented by educators in the field.
The Center is grateful to all the planners of these events, and in particular to the State planning committee who made this actually unprecedented magnitude happen!
